Twenty five years after it hit theaters, "Say Anything…" could be brought to the small screen as a comedy series. NBC has given a script commitment plus penalty to the half-hour, single-camera comedy from Aaron Kaplan's Kapital Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV, AceShowbiz said.
Justin Adler ("Better Off Ted") is writing the new TV project, which will take place a decade after the events in the 1989 movie directed by Cameron Crowe and starring John Cusack. Adler will also serve as executive producer along with Kaplan. Crowe, who made his directorial debut with the comedy drama movie, will not be involved in the small-screen adaptation.
The story, set in present day, will follow Lloyd Dobler who has long since been dumped by Diane. Life hasn't exactly turned out like he thought, but when Diane surprisingly returns home, Lloyd is inspired to "dare to be great" once again, get Diane back and reboot his life.
Cusack played Lloyd, an average student, in the movie with Ione Skye as valedictorian Diane.
