In an unusual move, Poland's Camerimage festival has chosen two films to open its 2014 edition, with both Morten Tyldum's The Imitation Game and Alejandro G. Inarritu's Birdman kicking off the event Nov. 15 in Bydgoszcz, Poland, The Hollywood Reporter said.
Birdman, which also opened this year's Venice Film Festival, stars Michael Keaton as an aging actor, once famous for playing an iconic superhero, who is trying to reignite his career and launch a Broadway play.
The Imitation Game stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the pioneering computer scientist and code breaker Alan Turing who helped crack the Nazi's military codes and win World War II but was persecuted in England for his homosexuality.
Both titles are considered prime award season contenders.
The Camerimage festival is the world's leading film fest honoring the art of cinematography. This year, the festival is paying tribute to Oscar-nominated writer and director Philip Kaufman (The Right Stuff) and Oscar-winning cameraman John Alcott (2001: A Space Odyssey).
The 22nd Camerimage festival runs Nov.15-22 in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
