Russian peacekeepers set up new posts after fresh Azeri aggression

The Russian peacekeeping force has set up new observation posts in Nagorno-Karabakh, including in the village of Hin Tagher, where the Azerbaijanis resumed offensive operations on December 12, the head of Karabakh's opposition Revival party Hayk Khanumyan said on Sunday, December 13.

Khanumyan met with the command of the Russian peacekeepers and published an updated map of the Russian observation posts following the meeting.

"Russia's position is clear: the clauses of the agreement must be respected," Khanumyan said, citing the trilateral statement signed by Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia on November 9.

"The peacekeeping mission is limited, it cannot take over the protection of the borders, which is the right and obligation of Artsakh Republic."

Azerbaijan resumed offensive action in parts of Nagorno-Karabakh that had remained under the Armenian side's control but where no Russian peacekeepers were stationed on December 11. Four Azeri soldiers were killed and at least six Armenian servicemen were wounded before the arrival of the peacekeeping troops to the area.
