Mamijanyan urges Europe to act on Armenian prisoners

Hayk Mamijanyan, head of the I Have Honor faction, wrote on Facebook that he could not ask his intended question during the PACE session.

“I have no questions for Nikol Pashinyan, leaving that to investigative bodies in the future. But since this week Armenia is in focus at PACE, I wanted to address you, Mr. President, the Secretary-General, and representatives of member states.

Please instruct your ambassadors in Baku to visit Armenian captives held in Azerbaijani prisons. Since the closure of the Red Cross office, neither we nor their relatives have received any information about their condition. This is the minimum you can do for them. I urge you to act immediately to prove that Europe still believes in humanitarian values,” he wrote.

Mamijanyan said this was the question he had planned to ask Pashinyan, but due to the format of the Q&A, where only political groups could pose questions, while individual MPs were not given the floor.

“Nevertheless, I will find channels to raise and address this issue,” he added.

In September 2023, following the nine-month blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh and the ethnic cleansing of its Armenian population, Azerbaijan captured former presidents Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, and Arayik Harutyunyan, along with former state minister Ruben Vardanyan, foreign minister David Babayan, and several other officials. The fabricated charges against them could lead to life imprisonment. On January 17, a show trial began in Baku against the former Karabakh leadership.
