Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan thanked his Swiss counterpart Micheline Calmy-Rey for her personal contribution to the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations.
“I would like to thank the Swiss authorities and personally President Micheline Calmy-Rey for the mediation. It’s regrettable that Turkey avoids meeting the commitments it has undertaken, depreciating the efforts of mediators,” President Sargsyan said at a news conference in Yerevan.
He also thanked Switzerland for the assistance rendered to Armenian people during the years of Genocide. “Swiss missionaries and government supported the Armenian people during the years of Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. In 2003, the Swiss national council passed a resolution on recognition of the Armenian Genocide. The Armenian nation is thankful to Switzerland for condemnation of this outrageous crime,” the Armenian President said.
