Expert: national minorities may form “fifth column” in Azerbaijan

Armenian media must increase focus on the issues of Azerbaijan’s national minorities – Talyshes, Lezgins and Avars, according to a political expert.

As Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan told a news conference in Yerevan, the minorities may form the “fifth column” to take a neutral position on Karabakh issue in Azerbaijan.

“Increased Islamic moods are reported in Azerbaijan, with representatives of national minorities following the trend, resolving to join the religions opposition because of the absence of political one. Steps must be taken to increase international awareness of Azeri conflicts with national minorities, to refute a view that Azerbaijan is in conflict with Armenia only,” the expert said.

Information security expert Vahram Mirakyan, in turn, characterized Azerbaijan as a “mini- Nazi state”, while “the world is unaware of the reality.”

“Reports of Azerbaijan leaving Armenia behind in information war suggest Armenian side merely responds to Azeri statements,” Mirakyan said.
