Tycoon may be banned from election campaign, paper says

Armenia's Central Electoral Commission (CEC) approved on May 2 complaints submitted by opposition candidate Nikol Pashinyan and his proxy Vahagn Hovakimyan on cancelling decision by 7th constituency electoral committee.

According to Haykakan Zhamanak daily, Pashinyan and Hovakimyan applied to 7th constituency electoral committee urging to cancel registration of Samvel Alexanyan nominated in this constituency.

Pashinyan claimed that Alexanyan distributed money to local residents and pledged to organize a prom party for high school students in Parvana restaurant belonging to him free of charge.

The local committee rejected claims of Pashinyan and Hovakimyan on April 27, daily says.

Meanwhile, CEC ruling said the decision was illegal, and the electoral committee of 7th constituency must consider the issue of banning Alexanyan from election campaign and depriving him of a deputy mandate, Haykakan Zhamanak says.
