Expert: West won’t pressure Ankara to gain Turkey’s support in Middle East

Political analyst Narek Galstyan forecasts no progress in Armenian-Turkish rapprochement in near future.

The expert stressed the need to exert pressure on Turkey for advancement in the process, noting that the U.S. and the West prioritize Iran’s nuclear problem and situation in Syria.

“The West doesn’t want Turkey to shift its stance on problems in the Middle East over pressure on it,” he said, adding that the West attaches great importance to Ankara’s support in these issues.

In this context, Mr. Galstyan noted that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s statement which stressed the necessity to continue Armenian-Turkish reconciliation efforts without preconditions, won’t affect Turkey’s position on the issue.
