Universal has released five "interrogation" clips to promote Oliver Stone's upcoming film, "Savages" which opens July 6, 2012, Examiner reported.
"Savages" is based Don Winslow's novel of the same name and is about two marijuana growers that get involved with a Mexican drug cartel, led by ruthless Elena Sanchez (Selma Hayek). The interrogation series shows short interviews with the main characters played by Aaron Johnson, Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Selma Hayek, and Benicio del Toro. Though these clips introduce viewers to the main characters, there isn't much depth behind this extra footage.
Basically these are short monologues where the characters give their names and how they are involved with the drug cartel and the criminals Chon (Taylor Kitsch) and Ben (Aaron Johnson). All other information about their characterization and storyline is developed in the trailer which explains the relationship between Ophelia (Blake Lively) and Chon and Ben.
"Savages" does have a few good qualities. Oliver Stone landed a hot cast in Aaron Johnson, Taylor Kitsch, and Blake Lively. And the veteran actors like Selma Hayek, Benicio del Toro, and even John Travolta make "Savages" worth a second look. Plus, the gritty cinematography and illicit sexuality of "Savages" lend the film a much needed edginess–though the idea that Ophelia has two boyfriends isn't that outrageous, yet by constantly mentioning her two boyfriends the trailers seem to think it's a main selling point of the film, Examiner said.
