Golden Apricot International Film Fest kicks off in Yerevan

Golden Apricot International Film Festival kicked off in Yerevan July 8, with Armenian Panorama Competition Program films announced on the 1st festival day.

Armenian Panorama features the following films: “The Armenian Bread” by Armen Gasparyan, “My Little Prince” by Armen Ronov, “Arzuman” by Aneta Ohanj, “New Julfa. To be” by Arsen Gasparyan, “Two Paths” by Vahe Yan, “Kostan Zaryan. the Lonely Soul of the Armenia Literature” by Hayk Kbeyan, “Armine and Lady Macbeth” by Misha Ghazaryan, “Together with my Sons” by Taron Petrosyan, “They Call me Ashik” by Arthur Khudoyan.

One of the most beautiful traditions of festival – the apricots Blessing ceremony – followed the Panorama films announcement. To complete the 1st festival day was the official opening ceremony.

2012 year competition program was announced, along with the Jury Board, to be followed by “Parajanov’s Thaler” Award ceremony.

“Parajanov’s Thaler” was awarded to distinguished Spanish director Viktor Erice. Further, renowned Russian director Roman Balayan granted “Parajanov’s Thaler” award to famous Georgian director Eldar Shengelaya.

After the official opening announcement, Hamo Beknazaryan’s “Shor and Shorshor” comedy was screened. The 1926 film was presented in a new manner- the movie was accompanied by live jazz arrangements created by Vahagn Hayrapetyan and his band for the occasion.

The opening ceremony was anchored by Gerald Papasian.
