Nikon unveils new Coolpix compact cameras

Nikon has unveiled the new Coolpix P7700 advanced compact camera, which comes as an update to the P7100, CNET reports.

Housed in an all-magnesium chassis, the new camera features a 12.2-megapixel CMOS sensor (1/1.7-inch), brighter zoom optics–F2 at the wide-end (28mm) and F4 at the telephoto-end (200mm)–and a 920k-dot, 3-inch fully articulated screen. The company has also incorporated image stabilization in the form of its proprietary Vibration Reduction (VR) mode which reduces camera shake and gives you sharper images in low-light conditions. Capable of capturing full-resolution images at a speedy 8 frames per second (fps), the P7700 also does high-speed continuous shooting at an impressive 120fps at 1,280 x 960 resolution.

Also announced is a new Coolpix S800c Android-based camera. Sporting a 16-megapixel backside-illuminated CMOS sensor, the new camera is equipped with 10x optical zoom (25mm to 250mm) and packs an 819k-dot, 3.5-inch OLED screen. Running on Android 2.3, the shooter is Wi-Fi-enabled, allowing users to access the Internet as they would on a smartphone.

The Coolpix P7700 and S800C compacts are expected to hit U.S. stores in September and have been priced at $500 and $350 respectively. Pricing and availability for the region will be confirmed at a later date.
