Ewan McGregor joins Julia Roberts in “August: Osage County”

Ewan McGregor has joined the cast of “August: Osage County,” John Wells’ upcoming film adaptation of the Pulitzer-Prize winning play, The Weinstein Company announced, according to TheWrap.

Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts have already signed on to star in the film, in which McGregor will play Bill Fordham. Fordham is the estranged husband of Barbara (Roberts) and son-in-law of Violet Weston (Streep).

The play, written by Tracy Letts, chronicles the women of the Weston family, who, after years apart, come together for a family crisis.

George Clooney, Grant Heslov, Jean Doumanian and Steve Taxler are producing Letts’ adaptation, which will begin principal photography Sept. 24.

McGregor was last seen in “Salmon Fishing in The Yemen” and “Beginners,” and will next appear in Juan Antonio Bayona’s “The Impossible.” He’s also set to star in “Jack the Giant Killer,” Bryan Singer’s revisionist take on “Jack and the Beanstalk.”
