ARMENIAN PRESIDENT ROBERT KOCHARIAN REELECTED ACCORDING TO EARLY RETURNS

According to the preliminary data of the central electoral commission of Armenia, presidential contender Robert Kocharian has collected 67,5% votes, and Stepan Demirchian – 32,5%. 1 583 107 constituents participated in the elections. 1 037 031 out of them voted for Robert Kocharian, 499 288 – for Stepan Demirchian and there were 3056 inexactitudes. These are early returns from 1864 polling stations out of the 1865 ones of 56 electoral districts of Armenia. 491 508 electors participated in the vote in Yerevan, 36,8% out of them voted for Demirchian, 63,2% – for Kocharian. The information on regions follows. 62 445 electors voted in Aragatsotn, 24 553 (40,1%) out of them for Demirchian, 36 609 (59,9%) – for Kocharian. 134 020 voters participated in the elections in Ararat, where Demirchian gathered 42 492 votes (32,5%), Kocharian – 88 424 (67,5%). 146 673 constituents voted in Armavir – 48 881 (34,2%) came for Demirchian, 93 936 (65,8%) – for Kocharian. The number of election participants in Gegharkunik totaled 125 098, out of which 40 406 (32,9%) were for Demirchian, 82 458 (67,1%) – for Kocharian. Lori electorate numbered 152 973, Demirchian collected 42 879 votes (28,9%), Kocharian – 105 678 (71,1%); Kotayk – 143 284, Demirchian was favored by 39 600 electors (28,3%), Kocharian – by 100 439 (71,7%); Shirak – 133 733, Demirchian won the favor of 34 893 (26,8%), Kocharian – of 95 546 (73,2%); Syunik – 97 237, Demirchian – 19 990 (21%), Kocharian – 75 055 (79%); Vayots Dzor – 25 571, Demirchian – 7210 (28,9%), Kocharian – 17 738 (71,1%); Tavush – 63 859, Demirchian – 22 584 (36,3%), Kocharian – 39 630 (63,7%).
