Paper: Heritage, Free Democrats to halt political cooperation

According to Haykakan Zhamanak daily, Heritage and Free Democrats parties, which earlier stepped up alliance, will face a political divorce in the near future.

As Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannissian told a press conference several days ago, according to the earlier reached agreement, Free Democrats leader Khachatur Kokobelyan had to follow Hovannissian’s suit, after the latter resolved to renounce his MP seat.

Meanwhile, Free Democrats spokesman denied rumors on the agreement reached.

With Hovannissian – Kokobelyan meeting held Oct 10, Free Democrats head is likely to have announced suspension of the political cooperation between the two parties, ahead of the presidential elections, the daily says.

However, Heritage parliamentary group composition will remain unchanged, with Khachatur Kokobelyan and Alexander Arzumanyan retaining their MP seats.

As the daily reports, Free Democrats are unlikely to endorse Raffi Hovannissian in the upcoming presidential race, considering the recent tensions between the parties. Moreover, in all probability, Free Democrats will nominate their own presidential candidate.
