IFC Midnight has acquired all U.S. rights to the documentary “My Amityville Horror” in partnership with subscriber VOD destination SundanceNOW, Indiewire reported.
Directed by Eric Walter, “Amityville” had its New York premiere at the DOC NYC Festival Saturday, Nov. 10.
“My Amityville Horror” will receive a theatrical and VOD release through IFC Midnight next year and an SVOD release on SundanceNOW as part of its new Doc Club, which is curated by DOC NYC programmer Thom Powers. It first played at the Fantasia International Film Festival in July, and then at Fantastic Fest in September.
In Walter’s film, Daniel Lutz opens up about the infamous haunting that terrified his family in 1975 for the first time in 35 years and the psychological scars he’s carried ever since. The film would make a nice companion piece to Rodney Ascher’s “Room 237,” which IFC Films picked up after its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. (Ascher’s film, which explores various theories on the subtext of Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining,” which is ostensibly about a haunted hotel, also played Fantastic Fest.)
Walter also produced “Amityville” with Andrea Adams and John R. Blythe; Ronald Puleio and Michael S. Russo are executive producers.
