Artificial muscles have been created that could power the limbs of super-strong robots in the future, Belfast Telegraph said.
Made from twisted strands of carbon yarn, the muscles can pull more than 100,000 times their own weight.
In tests they have demonstrated 200 times the load-lifting capacity of natural muscle.
The material, which can be woven into fabric, has multiple potential applications, say scientists.
As well as giving robots strength, they could be used to operate valves and other engineering systems and be incorporated into ‘smart’ clothing that reacts to its environment.
They were developed with an international team from Australia, China, South Korea, Canada and Brazil.
