The political developments in late 2012 suggest that no competitive elections may be expected in Armenia, Caucasus Institute Deputy Director said.
Sergey Minasyan noted that the current situation most of all favors the interests of the incumbent president.
“Serzh Sargsyan enjoys the support of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia and the coalition force,” the expert said, deeming the current leader as the strongest candidate.
Dwelling on Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannissian, National Self-Determination Union party President Paruyr Hayrikyan, former prime minister Hrant Bagratyan and former foreign minister of Artsakh Republic Arman Melikyan, Mr. Minasyan described them as politicians having played a significant role in the country’s different political stages.
“The polls will bear a mere technical character,” the expert said.
