OPINION THAT ONLY AZERI AUTHORITIES ARE FOR PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT OF KARABAKH CONFLICT INCORRECT

The opinion that only Azeri authorities come for peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict is incorrect. Head of the national committee of the Helsinki Civil Assembly Arzu Abdullayeva said yesterday. Let us remind that she discussed the issue of the Karabakh conflict settlement with the curators of the Caucasian region of the French foreign ministry in Paris at the turn of 2002. In Abdullayeva’s words, as reported by “Arminfo” agency, official Baku manipulates the Karabakh problem in its own interests. In the course of the meetings in the French foreign ministry she said that Azerbaijan did not want war and that the peaceful settlement potential was not exhausted. At the same time the Azeri people is not going to cede its land. As of the ways of the conflict settlement, Abdullayeva pointed out the acceptability of applying the Aland Isles model. In her words, at the end of February the Assembly will organize a conference in Tbilisi on the topic of “Ways of settling the Karabakh problem: reality and prospects.”
