FX teams up with “L.A. Confidential” scribe for “Shakedown” drama series

FX has found a new partner in crime in the form of James Ellroy, TheWrap said.

The cable network is teaming with celebrated crime writer Ellroy ("L.A. Confidential," "The Black Dahlia") to develop a new one-hour drama based on Ellroy's 2012 novel "Shakedown."

The project, set in the tabloid world and underbelly of Los Angeles circa the late 1950s, will center on Fred O'Tash, the city's top informant/operator/wire tapper/fixer. O'Tash "lives and works where the glamour and the grime intersect," according to a description of the project.

Ellroy is writing the pilot and will executive produce the series, which is being produced by FX Productions.
