Universal is going on a Buddymoon. The studio has picked up a comedy project with the working title Buddymoon that has Scott Stuber and Pam Abdy’s Bluegrass Films on board to produce along with Underground’s Trevor Engelson, The Hollywood Reporter said.
Andrew Goldberg, a writer-producer on The Family Guy, is behind the pitch and will pen the script.
The story picks up when a man is dumped on the eve of his nuptials. With an already expensive honeymoon package paid for, the man decides to indulge and asks his best buddy to go on the trip with him. Hijinks ensue.
Buddymoon is inspired by true events experienced by Engelson, who found himself in the buddy role. John Romano, the man who lived the tale and inspired the project, will receive a co-producer credit.
Underground’s Josh McGuire will serve as executive producer
Jon Mon, executive vp production at Universal, will oversee the project on behalf of the studio, while Michael Clear will oversee for Bluegrass Films.
Goldberg also wrote the 2011 Black List script The Wedding Day, which is set up at CBS Films.
