Warner Bros. is giving moviegoers the Robert De Niro-Sylvester Stallone boxing film "Grudge Match" for Christmas, TheWrap said.
The studio on Thursday, June 27 shifted the release date on the sports comedy, in which the two stars play aging rivals who climb back into the ring 50 years after their last bout, from Jan. 10, 2014, to Christmas Day of this year.
Christmas is already crowded. The Weinstein Company last week shifted its Meryl Streep-Julia Roberts drama "August: Osage County" to that date. Already there were Universal’s Keanu Reeves action drama "47 Ronin," Paramount’s Chris Pine-Keira Knightley action thriller "Jack Ryan" and the Fox comedy "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty."
Warner Bros also pushed back the Jeff Bridges fantasy epic "Seventh Son" from Oct. 18 to Jan. 17 of next year. Julianne Moore and Ben Barnes co-star in the Legendary Pictures production. "Seventh Son" will now go up against the Universal comedy "Ride Along," which stars Kevin Hart, Ice Cube and John Leguizamo, as well as Fox’s Geoffrey Rush drama "The Book Thief" and Open Road’s animated family film "The Nut Job."
It’s the second move for "Seventh Son," which was originally set for a February release. That was delayed in order to allow bankrupt Rhythm & Hues more time to complete the effects work. It will be released in 3D and Imax.
