New lawyer likely to head Armenian driver defenders team

Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan returned from Moscow where he met with Armenian driver Hrachya Harutyunyan accused of causing a deadly road accident in Russia.

As the Ombudsman told a news conference in Yerevan, the head of the Union of Armenians of Russia Ara Abrahamyan vowed to extend financial support, with another lawyer to be hired to head the team of Harutyunyan’s defenders.

An investigation will be conducted to clarify the reasons for Harutyunyan having been brought to the court in a woman’s robe and discover those responsible, the Ombudsman noted.

In conclusion, the human rights defender stressed that though understandable, public outrage over violation of the countryman’s rights must not be turned into an international conflict.

18 people died after a truck carrying macadam ran into a passenger bus in an outlying area of Moscow. The accident occurred when the truck plowed into the side of the bus near Oznobishino, a settlement in the Moscow municipality about 40 kilometres south of the city center.

The trick driver faces up to 7 year behind bars.
