“47 Ronin” fantasy action trailer features Keanu Reeves

Keanu Reeves has starred in a new trailer for 47 Ronin, Digital Spy reported.

The Universal Pictures film is the first English-language version of the classic story, which has had over 80 film adaptations in Japan.

Carl Rinsch's project centres around a group of samurai who hire outcast Kai (Reeves) to seek revenge against the warlord who killed their master and banished them.

Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Tekken) and Rinko Kikuchi (Pacific Rim) also feature in the film.

47 Ronin will be released in U.S. cinemas on December 25 and in the UK on December 26.

47 Ronin is an upcoming 2013 American fantasy action film depicting a fictional account of the forty-seven ronin, a real-life group of samurai in 18th-century Japan who avenge the murder of their master (stories, plays and other dramatic performances of the 47 Ronin story are commonly referred to as Chushingura in Japan).

Filming started in Budapest in March 2011; it moved to Shepperton Studios in London and was concluded in Japan.

47 Ronin is directed by Carl Erik Rinsch based on a screenplay by Chris Morgan and Hossein Amini. While the film is based on the true story of the forty-seven ronin, it is a fantastical take, being set "in a world of witches and giants".
