Google Doodle marks famed soprano Maria Callas 90th birth anniversary

The 90th anniversary of the birth of Maria Callas has been celebrated with a Google Doodle, Digital Spy reported.

The American-Greek soprano was born in New York City on December 2, 1923 and died on September 16, 1977 at the age of 53.

One of the most famous opera singers of the 20th century, she was dubbed La Divina – the divine one – for her singing ability.

Callas performed a range of operatic works, from pieces by Wagner in her early years to those by Donizetti, Bellini, Rossini, Verdi and Puccini.

Recent birthday Google Doodles around the world have included those marking the anniversaries of Claude Lévi-Strauss, Ivan Nechuy-Levytsky, Selma Lagerlöf, Helena Zmatlíková and Juan Carlos Castagnino.

The search giant also launched a playable Google Doodle game on November 23 to mark the 50th anniversary of BBC science fiction drama Doctor Who.
