“Arrested Development” creator to helm “Guinea Pigging” comedy

In a hefty seven-figure deal, Fox 2000 has picked up Guinea Pigging, a comedy project to which Mitch Hurwitz, the creator of TV’s acclaimed cult comedy Arrested Development, is attached to direct, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Night at the Museum writers Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant are attached to pen the script.

Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and David Ready of Chernin Entertainment are producing along with Peter Principato of Principato Young Entertainment as well as Conde Nast Entertainment’s Jeremy Steckler.

Pigging is based on a 2008 New Yorker article by Carl Elliott that looked at the community of semiprofessionals who spend their lives as test subjects for drug companies, hospitals and universities.

Lennon and Garant’s pitch is described as a “sophisticated comedy about a human drug-test subject who volunteers for testing at a pharmaceutical company and experiences unusual side effects.”

Rodney Ferrell is overseeing for Fox 2000. The comedy project could be the feature directorial debut for Hurwirtz.
