HP has launched a photo service allowing users to send augmented reality Christmas cards to one another with the aid of a downloadable app, Digital Spy said.
HP Live Photo lets users embed a 45-second video greeting into a printed picture, which can be viewed in-app by hovering a smartphone's camera over the image.
Physical photos must be printed on high-quality paper using an AirPrint-enabled HP printer, but digital greetings can be sent via Facebook and email.
"This free app uses Augmented Reality to play a video on top of a Live Photo. Share special moments, unique invitations and personalised messages," said HP on its website. "Be creative with Live Photos – we hope you'll enjoy using our app."
The HP Live Photo companion apps are available to download from Google Play and the App Store.
