Jaguar files patient for eye-tracking wipers

New technology is being continuously developed to make drivers' lives easier, and now Jaguar Land Rover has something in mind to take care of your windscreen, Digital Spy reports.

The company has filed a patent for eye-tracking technology that will trigger the wipers on the rear window, as found by Gizmag.

However, the aim is not to give drivers full control of the windscreen wipers with their eyes. It's about more appropriately-timed wipes and wearing the wipers down less.

Users still have to switch wipers on as normal, but instead of continuously wiping, the technology will smartly detect when the driver looks into the rear mirror before wiping.

Similarly, if the wipers have just passed and you look into the mirror, it knows that there's no need for an extra wipe.

The patent follows the firm's prototype Driver Monitor System (DMS), which was unveiled CES in January, in partnership with Intel.

Last year, Jaguar Land Rover also announced that it is testing a smart car with self-learning technology on board.

The vehicle uses artificial intelligence algorithms to learn the motorist's driving style and preferences over time, and a 'Smart Assistant' will provide them with useful information and reminders.
