Apple to roll out HomeKit-enabled devices in June

Apple's push into the connected home will begin next month as HomeKit-enabled devices start to arrive on the market, Digital Spy reports.

The Cupertino firm has revealed little about its smart home platform since it was announced, but a company spokesperson has now offered a progress update.

"HomeKit [hardware certification] has been available for just a few months and we already have dozens of partners who have committed to bringing HomeKit accessories to market and we're looking forward to the first ones coming next month," they told the Wall Street Journal.

HomeKit, which was announced alongside iOS 8, will allow users to control smart appliances – such as light bulbs and garage door openers – via their iOS device.

Word of a June release for HomeKit-ready products flies in the face of rumours that the platform has run into delays due to technical issues that need to be ironed out.

Apple is expected to make a formal announcement about HomeKit at its Worldwide Developers Conference next month.
