Twitter lets users upload videos straight from the web

Twitter has brought its web-based service more in line with its mobile apps by giving users the option to upload videos from their desktop, Digital Spy reports.

The service is about to be flooded with even more moving images because the firm is also adding a GIF generator and allowing Periscope streams to play within your timeline.

Twitter's new emphasis on video will be a double-edge sword if you're the kind of person who hates adverts, as pre-ad rolls are being added to all clips from official content providers, reports Re/code.

The changes come just days after Jack Dorsey was sworn in for a second full-time stint as Twitter CEO.

Dorsey is also aiming to turn Twitter into the go-to place for coverage of live events with the launch of Moments, a feature that serves users with real-time content from fellow tweeters and media partners.

Moments is now available for Android, iPhone and desktop users in the U.S.
