Ultra-fast 5G networks could be norm by 2020

Ultra-fast 5G networks could be up and running by 2020 following a United Nations agreement, Digital Spy reports.

Radio communication experts from the UN have drawn up a roadmap for the technology's development, paving the way for its rollout within five years.

5G is said to be theoretically capable of providing speeds up to 1,000 times faster than 4G, but more research is needed before its specifics are set in stone.

Samsung held 5G trials last year, reaching top speeds of 7.5Gbps, around 30 times faster than the average 4G connection.

5G is thought to be the key to developing other emerging technologies, such as the internet of things and driverless cars.

Let's hope the iPhone 9 and Samsung Galaxy S11 are equipped to handle it.
