2016 Moto handsets to be equipped with fingerprint scanners

After confirming plans to phase out the iconic Motorola brand in the phone sector, Lenovo has shared details about its 2016 Moto handsets, Digital Spy reports.

Company executive Chen Xudong has told Tech Sina that every Moto-branded phone released this year will come equipped with a fingerprint scanner.

Motorola earned critical acclaim for its 2015 smartphone lineup, but the firm has shied away from biometric security until now.

Xudong also confirmed that 15 handsets will go on sale this year across the Moto and Lenovo brands, with the Lenovo Vibe brand reserved for budget devices.

This casts doubt on another Moto E smartphone seeing the light of day, as the Moto branding is expected to be exclusive to high-end handsets.

Lenovo has also revealed that its Vibe user interface will be integrated into the Android operating system on its devices, a move that might not go down too well with fans of stock Android.
