Guillermo del Toro breaks silence on “Pacific Rim 2” rumors

Guillermo del Toro broke silence on rumors saying that the production of "Pacific Rim 2" was aborted. The 51-year-old filmmaker took to Twitter on Monday, January 11 to debunk the rumors and tell his followers that he would still be a part of the production team, AceShowbiz said.

"Pac Rim 2 cancelled? Don't believe everything you read," del Toro tweeted. He also said that he would tentatively be the director for this project. "It's still going and I'll remain w it in one way or another!" he continued.

Last October, the Mexican filmmaker told "Pacific Rim" fans that the sequel made some progress. "PACIFIC RIM 2: Budget and script went in. No answers yet. If anything happens, I will post. If nothing happens, I will just keep rambling," he tweeted at the time.

Legendary and Universal recently told Latino-Review that the hold was to allow the writing team to "continue in its efforts to exceed the amazing experience of the first film." Some people speculated that the acquisition of Legendary by Chinese conglomerate Wanda would encourage the development of the "Pacific Rim" sequel.

Rumor has it, the indefinite hold of "Pacific Rim 2" made del Toro look for another project. He is reportedly in talks with 20th Century Fox and James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment to develop and direct "Fantastic Voyage" remake.
