It is necessary to wait until the Turkish government is formed, and only after that one can draw certain conclusions regarding official Ankara’s new policy towards Armenia and the South Caucasus. Armenian foreign minister Vardan Oskanian stated it when being asked by journalists to comment on Islamist forces coming to power in Turkey. In his words, the whole Europe is awaiting further developments in Turkey after the parliamentary elections held there. For the first time within the past 40 years, the diplomat emphasized, an interesting situation is formed in the region, when only one party will be at the helm in the neighboring country. In the minister’s opinion, this circumstance has both positive and negative consequences. Anyway, the Armenian foreign department head noted, the preliminary statements made by Ankara are rather moderate.
