Facebook will soon let users set videos as profile pictures

Step away from the selfie machine that is your smartphone – you no longer need to plague our Facebook timelines with profile pictures of your gurning, trout-pout… you can turn them into videos instead, Digital Spy said.

“Announced during Facey-B's annual F8 developer conference, the social giant has confirmed that the long coveted move to video-based profile pics is finally on the way.

Not all video formats will be supported, but you'll be able to transform your static profile picture into a moving image through a number of third-party apps.

Pimping your page with a bit of GIF-style love, developers, including those responsible for the Vine, MSQRD, Boomerang and lollicam apps, have been provided with the new Profile Expression Kit, and will be rolling out the feature soon.

Currently in beta, the video profile pics will be brought to the masses in the coming weeks – that doesn't give you long to work on your viral profile pic ideas,” Digital Spy said.
