Madonna, Stevie Wonder deliver tribute to Prince at Billboard Awards

Madonna and Stevie Wonder teamed up to deliver a beautiful tribute to Prince at the Billboard Awards, Gigwise sad.

Introduced to the stage by The Roots' ?uestlove, who described the death of The Purple One as 'an earthquake', a short musical montage in memory of the 'Kiss' star rung out – before Madonna took to the stage in a very Prince-esque glittery purple suit with cravat and cane.

She then ran through a heartfelt rendition of 'Nothing Compares 2 U', before Stevie Wonder then joined in to duet on an epic cover of 'Purple Rain'.

Madonna and Prince famously dated briefly in 1985, before a feud erupted between the two that lasted until 2011 when Madge attended one of his concerts. However, it wasn't to last long – as Prince would later call her out in an interview with Billboard in 2013 when he blamed her for his split with label Warner Bros.

"She was getting paid, but at the time, we were selling more records and selling out concerts on multiple nights," he said. "It wasn't about her. This was about business."

Prince's family this week revealed plans for his funeral and a public memorial. Speculation continues to surround Prince's death – amid rumours that he had an addiction to painkillers and was due to see a doctor for it days before his death, while claims have also emerged that he was battling AIDS.
