The next iPhone to offer a “force touch” home button?

Rumours continue to flow about the iPhone 7 – or whatever Apple will call the next handset – and the finer points of the upgrade, Digital Spy said.

The latest reports indicate that the company will finally rid users of a physical home button after almost a decade, replacing it instead with a capacitive alternative.

Analyst Cowen and Company indicate that Apple would use the same 'Force Touch' screen technology implemented in the iPhone 6S to enable pressure sensitivity and haptic feedback.

Not only could this open up fresh design concepts, such as an all-screen front, but the move could also open up a number of 'home' interface opportunities akin to how Force Touch is currently used.

The reliability issue with the report is that it would mean a big design change for the iPhone, while the consensus instead indicates any overhaul will be saved for 2017.

More concrete info will likely become available over the summer, with Apple expected to launch its next flagship phone in September.
