TUMO-like technology centers will be established at major military units across Armenia, Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan said Tuesday, November 15 at a meeting with media editors.
Addressing the topical problems in the armed forces, the Minister said that raising the general level of education will be prioritized within Nation-Army, a concept Sargsyan brought forward following his appointment as Defense Minister for unifying the society and the armed forces.
"Additional educational hubs will be created at major military units," he said, according to CivilNet.
"We have already started dialogue with several prominent IT companies for establishing TUMO-like centers."
He said the system aims to make soldiers more intelligent and healthy once they are discharged.
During discussions, Sargsyan stressed the importance of developing military education in Armenia, stating that there are only two such higher education centers – Armenak Khanperyants Military Aviation Institute and Vazgen Sargsyan Military Institute of Armenia.
The graduates of the two institutions are provided with jobs within the defense system, but the number of applicants has nonetheless reduced, the Minister said, adding that educational programs are currently being revamped to make military training more attractive.
