The village of Khndzorut in Vayots Dzor province borders Nakhijevan. The village had a dilapidated infrastructure of outdoor lighting after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Seeking to solve this problem, the locals lightened several streets, although the result was not satisfying: more energy was used than expected, providing insufficient lighting. Most of the light bulbs were out of order, while their replacement with new ones demanded additional expenditures.
A program was launched in the village a year ago in the framework of Alternative Energy project, jointly implemented by the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets and VivaCell-MTS. During the first stage of the program 60 LED lights have been installed in the village illuminating the main streets – a 1800 meter-long area.
The collaborating parties also completed the second stage of the program. This time a lighting system of 34 LED lights was installed to lighten an area of 3200 meters. As a result, 94 lights were installed to illuminate the whole village.
The launch of the system was attended by the General Manager of VivaCell-MTS Ralph Yirikian, the Founder of FPWC Ruben Khachatryan and the residents of the community.
“This program stands out in one important aspect: it is not limited to particularly tangible outcome. Its environmental usefulness will be seen years after, unlike its financial efficiency. Cutting financial expenses is particularly important for our compatriots living in border areas. We strive to ease the burden of the residents, the village, as well as the community,” said Yirikian.
The installation of the energy efficient outdoor lighting system is an important precondition for community development, VivaCell-MTS said in a statement.
As a result of the project the budgetary spending will be significantly reduced, which will allow the residents to solve other problems. The use of the energy efficient technologies will enable the relieve the financial burden of Zaritap community, and to enliven the life of Khndzorut village as well.
The use of environmental and energy-efficient LED lights is economically efficient for villages with small budgets. The use of such a system will reduce the community's outdoor lighting costs by up to 80%, easing the financial burden of the residents.
The lamps will lighten the streets of the community from 9:00 pm to midnight in summer, and from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm in winter. The village will be lightened all night long on holidays.
