Even if relations between Russia and NATO deteriorate to the level of "black-and-white worldview," it would be useful for Russia to have a clear, transparent and predictable channel of dialogue with the bloc, such as Armenia, defense minister Vigen Sargsyan has said.
Sargsyan was addressing a session of Valdai Discussion Club in Yerevan on Saturday, March 11 when asked about relations between Armenia and NATO.
According to the minister, Armenia actively cooperates with NATO in a number of areas, including through peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and Afghanistan.
Relations with NATO started when Armenia joined the North Atlantic Cooperation Council (1992) and the Partnership for Peace (1994). The country’s programme of cooperation with NATO is set out in an Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP), which is agreed every two years. NATO and Armenia cooperate on wide-ranging democratic, institutional and defence reforms.
