Tatoyan calls for urgent action amid Azerbaijan’s provocations

Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan believes Armenia has to take urgent measures, amid Azerbaijan's fresh provocation on the border, which left three Armenian troops killed and two others injured.

Tatoyan told a briefing on Wednesday, January 12 that residents of local communities have reported hearing sounds of artillery fire. According to him, Azerbaijanis are opening fire from Armenian territories they have intruded since May 2021.

"The Azerbaijani military units are located in the lands belonging to our compatriots, in the territory of our settlements," Tatoyan said.

"We must act urgently, we do not have time, we must act as soon as possible. Events are unfolding rapidly."

Three Armenian soldiers – Artur Mkhitaryan, Rudik Gharibyan (both born in 2002) and Vahan Babayan (b. 2003) – were killed in Azerbaijan's latest provocation on January 11, the Defense Ministry has said. Two other servicemen were injured in fighting.
