Ex-MP: Azerbaijan dodges CoE vote, fails to support support ally Russia

On February 25, when the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and PACE was voting on suspending Russia's right to vote in the Council of Europe, Azerbaijan failed to support its ally in any way and “beautifully snuck out” of the session, Edmon Marukyan, Chairman of the Bright Armenia party, has said.

Azerbaijan a few days ago signed a declaration on allied cooperation with the Russian Federation.

“Azerbaijan left its ally – the Russian Federation – only in the hope of Armenia's support. I hope the Russian authorities will draw conclusions from all this,” Marukyan said.

On February 22, after negotiations that lasted 4 hours, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a declaration on allied cooperation containing more than 40 articles. Putin called the document a new stage in relations between the two countries.
