Pashinyan’s stresses U.S. role as OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan hosted the U.S. Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Andrew Shaffer and emphasized the importance of the United States in that role.

Pashinyan said the meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and the processes taking place in this context.

The interlocutors stressed the role of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs’s format in the comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The sides also touched upon humanitarian issues, as well as the possibility of starting negotiations with Azerbaijan on a peace treaty. In this regard, the Prime Minister stressed the mediating role of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs’ format and the Co-chair countries.

The conversation comes on the heels of a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and President of the European Council Charles Michel in Brussels on April 6. In the Belgian capital, Pashinyan and Aliyev agreed to set up a bilateral border commission by the end of April.
