The proposal to lower the bar on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) has arrived from many of Armenia's partners, Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan said in an interview on Public Television.
Grigoryan's comments came after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the international community is telling the Armenian side to lower its "benchmark on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh a little and ensure greater international consolidation around Armenia and Artsakh."
"I can't cite specific names at the moment ․․․ It was not an offer from one person, many colleagues have talked to us about it. But when you ask about security guarantees, we must develop security guarantees during the negotiations," Grigoryan said.
"In the framework of negotiations with Azerbaijan, as well as thanks to the support of the international community, we will create those security guarantees. If there are no security guarantees, we will not move forward, status quo will of course be maintained."
Reminded that Azerbaijan has a record of violating agreements, the Security Council chief said not only documents but also mechanisms will serve as security guarantees.
