Tax problems of Argentinean businessman Eduardo Ernekian in his country will by no means tell on the fulfillment of obligations provided for by the agreement on trust management of the Yerevan airport. The press service of the ministry of justice of Armenia told “Arminfo” agency when commenting on information about accusation in tax non-payment lodged against Ernekian by Argentinean tax bodies. It should be noted that according to the agreement, concluded with the Armenian government in October 2001, “Corporation American” firm owned by Ernekian assumed trust management of “Zvartnots” airport for a term of 30 years. Meanwhile, according to the data provided by “Arminfo,” availability of tax problems with the Argentinean government was interpreted ambiguously. In the opinion of some observers, $5 million (allegedly kept back from tax services) are a rather insignificant sum in businessman’s “Argentinean Airports” head company turnover, thus its possible payment will hardly tell on the fulfillment of obligations to the Armenian government. Others consider that the Armenian government should more carefully choose investors, otherwise cases like that with Ernekian can negatively tell on the country business image.
