Pashinyan describes Karabakh-Armenia road as “genocide prevention corridor”

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that the Lachin Corridor that connects Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) to Armenia is a “corridor of genocide prevention.”

Pashinyan made the remarks at the 4th Global Forum "Against the Crime of Genocide" in Mesrop Mashtots Research Institute of Ancient Manuscripts in Yerevan on Monday, December 12.

According to him, close the corridor would mean to sentence the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh to genocide in three different scenarios – eviction of Armenians, loss of identity and physical annihilation.

Azerbaijan has on multiple occasions spoken about a so-called "corridor" through the southern Armenian province of Syunik that would connect Nakhijevan to the rest of Azerbaijan. The Armenian side, however, has repeatedly denied being involved in negotiations for the provision of a corridor to Azerbaijan, stressing that they have only agreed to unblock transport communications in the region.
