Mother Armenia alliance: no coalition, only vote to oust Civil Contract

Mother Armenia alliance candidate Karen Simonyan declared that their participation in the Gyumri city council snap elections was driven by a political goal: at minimum, to remove Civil Contract from power, and at best, to assume leadership of the city. He shared this in a Facebook post.

Simonyan emphasized that they are not forming a coalition but are voting solely to remove Civil Contract from authority.

“We had published our principles before the campaign and have not deviated from them by even a millimeter. I’m pleased that the Our City alliance, which passed the electoral threshold, has finally made its decision public. I consider this a victory for all of us.

At this point, I can say we have helped ensure that Mother Armenia’s minimum objective—removing Civil Contract from power—has become a reality and fulfilled the people’s demand. I want to stress that we are not forming coalitions or engaging in bargaining over positions. We are voting to depose Civil Contract.

Our future actions in the city hall and beyond will align strictly with the programs we were elected for, which reflect the interests of Gyumri and its residents,” he wrote.

The Central Electoral Commission has summarized the preliminary results of the March 30 snap local elections, which showed that no single force received a majority in Gyumri. As a result, political coalitions will be necessary to elect a community leader. If opposition forces unite, Gyumri may have an opposition mayor.

In Parakar, four political entities participated in the elections: Civil Contract (Ludvig Gyulnazaryan), Unity Alliance (Volodya Grigoryan), National Progress Party (David Minasyan), and Stability Party (Gor Saribekyan). The leading force is the Unity Alliance, whose member party Country to Live has announced Grigoryan's victory.
