Parliament targets opposition with violence, imprisonment: MP

MP Tigran Abrahamyan from the I Have Honor faction stated on his Facebook page that authorities are using two principal tactics against opposition figures in the National Assembly.

“Our country has faced so many unprecedented events that society has developed an immunity to endure difficult situations,” he wrote.

Abrahamyan referred to the arrest of colleague Arthur Sargsyan, saying: “His detention and the authorities' attempt to push it under the label of terrorism demonstrates that they use two main weapons: physical attacks and direct imprisonment.”

He stressed that the simultaneous use of both methods is not out of the question.

“Arthur is a straightforward man, a good representative of the Armenian people, whose work has no connection—and could not have had any connection—with the charges brought against him,” Abrahamyan asserted.

“Freedom for Arthur and all our political prisoners,” he concluded.

On the morning of July 10, searches were conducted in the homes of Armenian Revolutionary Federation members, after which seven individuals were detained and taken to the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
