Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has called on citizens to prepare for a “Great Spiritual Meeting at Etchmiadzin’s central square.” He made the announcement on his official Facebook page.
“It’s unfortunate, painful, but logical: when married couples can’t uphold their vows, they divorce,” wrote Pashinyan. “The same must happen with the Church. Ktrich Nersisyan must vacate the Catholicosate. Let the Catholicosate remain worthy.”
He concluded, saying: “Live with prayer, restraint, and fasting, and prepare for the Great Spiritual Meeting at Etchmiadzin’s central square.”
In a press conference, responding to a question about how the Catholicosate will be vacated, Pashinyan said: “It will be liberated just like Armenia was freed from Serzh Sargsyan in 2018.”
