Former ombudsman accuses PM of inciting conflict

Arman Tatoyan, head of the Tatoyan Foundation and former Human Rights Defender of Armenia, stated on his Facebook page that the head of the ruling Civil Contract Party, who is "blatantly abusing the office of Prime Minister," is "clearly provoking confrontation" with "incendiary actions and hateful rhetoric."

“It is undeniable that he bears responsibility for these illegal, anti-church and anti-Christian actions and their consequences. And since he cannot carry out his unlawful intentions alone, he is recruiting ‘like-minded individuals,’ only to later blame and burden them with responsibility,” Tatoyan wrote.

He emphasized that everything is now clear regarding the Prime Minister’s intentions.

“This must be understood by law enforcement and other state institutions in order not to become complicit in his illegal acts. He will primarily try to use these bodies to execute his unlawful objectives,” the statement reads.

At a recent press conference, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the Catholicosate will be “liberated just like Armenia was freed from Serzh Sargsyan in 2018.” He later called for a “Great Spiritual Meeting in Echmiadzin’s central square.”
