Former MP warns against 2026 election scenario

Former National Assembly member Ruben Hakobyan, currently detained in the Nubarashen penitentiary, has issued a critical letter addressing recent political developments in Armenia.

"What is the plan of the anti-Armenian trio?

Observing the developments around the so-called ‘peace treaty’, I believe that by the end of the year, a document will either be signed or preliminarily agreed upon, effectively handing over Armenia to the mercy of the enemy. This document was edited and finalized during Nikol Pashinyan’s recent meetings with Erdoğan and Aliyev. Through this power-hungry agent, the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem is once again attempting to enforce the final subjugation of Armenia. It’s also evident that this plan essentially excludes any genuine involvement from Iran and Russia, with the consent and backing of certain Western structures.

One of the preconditions for signing the document is the discrediting of the only still-functioning institution—the Armenian Apostolic Church—by presenting false accusations of pedophilia, sacrilege, and immorality against high-ranking clergy. The enemy cannot forgive the Catholicos’ notable speech in Switzerland about ethnic cleansing in Artsakh and Armenian prisoners in Baku, and is using the traitor to retaliate. The so-called Prime Minister of Armenia, obedient to the enemy, implements these directives on a daily basis.

The document also outlines a plan to create an illusion of warming relations between Armenia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan before the 2026 parliamentary elections. This will be followed by a propagandistic parade meant to emotionally sway the public with talk of peace, security, and economic growth.

The tactical aim of this insidious and anti-national scheme is clear: manipulate public sentiment to ensure the current leadership’s re-election in 2026. After implementing this tripartite plan, Armenia’s complete subjugation will be just half a step away.

Therefore, parliamentary elections under this plan must not be allowed," Hakobyan wrote.

He further stressed the need for decisive action to restore constitutional order and force Pashinyan’s resignation.

"Dear opposition, I firmly believe that the only way to halt Armenia’s rapid descent is to unite behind a single agenda to compel Nikol Pashinyan to resign. I also believe this can only be achieved by preparing and holding a nationwide rally with broad participation from opposition representatives. The rally must avoid discouraging speeches and focus clearly on how to demand the resignation and carry out the plan to the end. It is essential to convincingly explain to the public, using well-argued examples, that the root of all these misfortunes lies in the Prime Minister’s unconstitutional actions, listing several of them. (I addressed some of these in detail on my Facebook page just days before my arrest.)

A temporary government should also be formed for 6–8 months with key political figures involved. It must have a practical plan to restore trust not only with our strategic allies but also with international institutions and diplomatic platforms.

During this period, we must also work to neutralize domestic polarization and intolerance through credible actions, and prepare and conduct parliamentary elections within the set timeframe.

I am not rigid in this approach—other options can be discussed. But public focus must not be diverted to impractical alternatives that are virtually pointless.

If the anti-Armenian trio’s nefarious script is indeed implemented, then perhaps we truly deserve both this state of affairs and the catastrophic premiership of a national traitor," the letter concludes.
